Cantor’s Top 2 “Turn Thinks” 1. Moving units pre-emptively and trying to improve your positioning even when it doesn't seem important.

  1. Sequencing the turn so you use all of your resource and have the best access to different cards to use. (i.e. sacing before making a play, only sacing for resource if you are going to use it that turn, or playing scrolls that draw more scrolls at the start of the play so you can re-evaluate your options, often before sacing.)

Learned several neat things from this session including: - Positioning – huge – separates the top players from average - Counting cards – yours and opponents - Call your top decks (I need to top-deck this…)

Though the last one sounds a bit voodoo(ish), it comes up again in EP 6 or 7 - basically it's a methodology to reinforce counting cards :)

A good explanation for why calling your topdecks is valuable came to me the other day, well after we did the recording.

The first level of optimizing your play is to figure out the best play you can make with what you have, and if that uses the same number of resources that you currently have, to sac for scrolls instead of resources, and then look for the best play again to see if it has improved with the 2 new cards.

But the next level on top of that is seeing the board state and recognizing, that yeah, I could do a pretty good play with (say you currently have N resources) N+1 resources, so I should sac for resources. But if I sac for scrolls and topdeck say, a machinated, a bombard, a speed, a damning curse, w/e is important for you at that time, my play would be SO much better, that I should still sac for scrolls here, especially if the play with N resources isn't that much worse than the one you would make if you had sac'd for resources.

Basically its an extra layer of strategy to sometimes gamble a little on your topdecks because you have identified the value of some other cards in your deck, rather than just working to maximize the use of what you already have in hand.
